Government majority owned Telecommunications Company Telkom has announced that it will further cut its data costs for South Africa consumers making it the cheapest mobile company for smart phone and fixed data users in the country.

Telkom says it has heard the calls from consumers to cut data costs and is heading the call by telecommunication’s minister Siyabonga Cwele to reduce the cost of mobile data.

It also launched a new offering for fixed users with 4 Mbps at the cost of 599 Rands a month.

Telkom Consumer CEO, Attila Vital, says Telkom is currently offering big bundles of data at very affordable prices and this has become very popular with consumers.

The company this week launched its fixed line product offering with unlimited home internet and voice plans.

Customers will be upgraded from 2MB 4 MB and 4MB to 8 MB with minimum price increases. â–
