Orange, Vodafone receive most Spanish consumer complaints

Orange and Vodafone were Spanish telecoms operators with the highest levels of complaints in 2014, according to a report from Spain's consumer protection authority, FACUA.

Orange Spain received a total of 27 percent of the telecoms-related complaints submitted to FACUA, closely followed by Vodafone Spain, with 26 percent. Movistar and Jazztel came in joint third place in the ranking, with 16 percent, while Ono and Yoigo received 10 and 4 percent of the complaints respectively.

FACUA previously reported that the telecoms sector as a whole received by far the greater share of all complaints submitted last year, around 37.6 percent of the total, followed by the banking sector (17.4 percent), energy utilities (10.7 percent) and insurance companies (4.5 percent).

Consumers mainly protested about operators failing to fulfil promotional offers, sending bills after the termination of the contract, applying or threatening to apply unfair penalties for early contract termination and charging for calls that weren't made or services that weren't part of the original contract. â–
