Motorola India to aggressively promote budget 4G phones

Motorola Mobility plans to bring affordable 4G smartphones in 2015 to India, one of its priority markets along with Brazil, which the company says will be critical for its global charge to become market leader.

The US smartphone maker, after being bought over by China'sLenovo, aims to lead the global smartphone business while trying to elevate its position in India to No. 3 from 4 by next year on the back of strong demand, Rick Osterloh, president and chief operating officer at Motorola Mobility, told ET in an interview.

Motorola India sales are expected to cross 3 million units by early January and an exclusive partnership with Flipkart, which has been extremely fruitful, will continue. The company though it hasn't ruled out the option of selling through offline retailers as well going forward. India being the only market where both Lenovo and Motorola have existing devices businesses is expected not to cannibalize each other.
