A parts shortage caused by a fire at a Michigan plant has forced Mercedes-Benz to halt SUV production at its plant in Alabama.

According to Mercedes-Benz U.S. International, SUV operations were canceled Thursday after it ran out of cockpit cross-members.

A May 2 fire severely damaged the Meridian Magnesium Products of America factory near Lansing, Michigan.

"We currently do not have parts to resume full production of SUVS next week, but we are working with our supply base to get back to normal production levels," the company said.

All MBUSI Team Members will be given the opportunity to work the week of May 14th based on a modified production schedule. We will provide various work options for our Team Members."
