Huntington Ingalls Industries to establish facility in Hampton, Va. create more than 250 new jobs

Huntington Ingalls Industries will create more than 250 new jobs by establishing an Unmanned Systems Center of Excellence in Hampton, Virginia.

HII is the nation’s largest military shipbuilding company and provides professional services to government and industry. For more than a century, HII’s Newport News and Ingalls shipbuilding divisions in Virginia and Mississippi have built more ships in more ship classes than any other U.S. naval shipbuilder.

HII’s Technical Solutions division supports national security missions around the globe with unmanned systems, nuclear and environmental services, defense and federal solutions, and fleet sustainment. Headquartered in Newport News, HII employs more than 42,000 people operating both domestically and internationally.

Governor Northam approved a $1.5 million grant from the Commonwealth’s Opportunity Fund to assist the City of Hampton with the project. The Governor also approved a performance-based grant of $1.5 million from the Virginia Investment Performance program, an incentive that encourages capital investment by existing Virginia companies.

Huntington Ingalls Industries is eligible to receive funding from the Transportation Partnership Opportunity Fund, administered by the Virginia Department of Transportation.
