The facility, at 6100 E Highway 66, was the home of Halliburton’s Remote Operations Command Center used to monitor its well completion operations across various shale plays within a Mid-Continent region that included all of Oklahoma and parts of Texas, Kansas and Colorado.

Halliburton also owns and operates a large rail facility in El Reno it uses to offload sand used by its crews to hydraulically fracture horizontal wells across the Anadarko Basin. It was unclear Monday how the layoffs affected that operation.

The company’s decision to close its El Reno office, while not welcome, hadn’t been totally unexpected by local officials.

El Reno Mayor Matt White said Monday that he, other elected leaders and the city’s staff expected they might see some impact from an ongoing slowdown of Oklahoma’s oil and gas industry. Because of that expectation, White said the city’s staff and council had developed and approved a conservative budget for its current fiscal year.
