Canadian Solar gets go-ahead for 100-MW deal in Mississippi

The Mississippi Public Service Commission has approved a build-transfer agreement (BTA) for a 100-MW solar project in the state between Canadian Solar and the local unit of energy company Entergy.

As part of the agreement, Recurrent Energy LLC will build what would be the largest solar power plant in Mississippi.

The facility will be located on 1,000 acres (404.7 ha) of land in Sunflower County.

Upon completion by mid-2022, Entergy Mississippi will acquire the asset for a base purchase price of some USD 138.4 million (EUR 126m).

The Sunflower plant should be able to produce enough clean electricity to meet the power consumption of more than 16,000 homes.

The project is expected to create 360 jobs during its construction.
