Atkins has been appointed by the Swedish Transport Administration, Trafikverket, to develop plans for the country’s first high speed rail mainline.

Working in partnership with Ramboll, Atkins will provide a range of services over the next five years to plan and design the Linköping city section of the 160km East Link project a 250pkh high speed line running from Järna just outside Stockholm to Linköping in southern Sweden.

The SEK 54 billion / $5.9b scheme which is expected to become fully operational in 2035 will significantly reduce journey times, increase capacity across the railway network and act a catalyst for regional economic growth.
