Embraer introduced the second generation of its E190 aircraft, the newest addition to its airliner family.
New aircraft The E190 E2 can carry up to 106 passengers
Embraer president Frederico Curado said North African and Middle Eastern countries are prospective buyers of the new unit.
Since the launch of its new family, in June 2013, Embraer had 267 firm orders placed, with an additional 373 options. The E190 E2’s list price is $58.2 million. Curado said the aircraft is one category below the smaller-sized Boeing and Airbus families 737 and A320, passenger capacity-wise.
The E190 E2 will have its first test flight in the second half of this year, and is slated to start flying in the first half of 2018. Embraer reports that fuel consumption is down 24% from the previous model, with maintenance costs down 25%.
According to Embraer’s vice president of Operations, Luís Carlos Affonso, modifications for this generation include a more modern and fuel-efficient engine, new, bigger wing design, and more modern flight systems.
Embraer’s new E-jet family, which this model belongs in, $1.7 billion in investment, including own funds and financing. The new airliner family comprises two other models: the E195 E2, slated to start flying in 2019, and the E175 E2, which is expected by 2020. ■
