That quantity is slightly higher than the same period in 2018, thus confirming the country as the leading exporter in South-East Asia, second in Asia and fifth in the world, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development reported on Saturday.

The accumulated annual income was rounded off with the income received in August (more than 830 million dollars). Until the end of that month, the main recipients were the United States, Japan, China and South Korea, which accounted for almost 57 percent of purchases.

Managers of the Association of Processors and Exporters of Vietnam Aquatic Products consider possible that the sector meets the goal of 10 billion dollars in the year (4.65 percent of Gross Domestic Product).

Breaking down, the plans consider income of 4.2 billion dollars for shrimp exports; 2.3 billion dollars for tra fish (panga, pangasius); and 3.5 billion dollars for other species of fish and shellfish.

The country is carrying out a program in the sector until 2025, with priority master plans for its two star products, shrimp and tra fish.
