A major African Swine Fever (ASF) case, involving 700 pigs, has been reported by the Ukrainian state veterinary service.

The affected farm is located in the Chernivtsi region in western Ukraine, close to the Romanian border. Plans have already been put in place to prevent the disease from spreading, including “explanatory work” among the local population concerning what is involved in controlling ASF.
This is the 10th recorded ASF case in Ukraine so far this year, according to the country’s Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food.
OIE, as part of its official release of the details of the case, said that all the quarantine measures have been implemented and that a “stamping-out” of all susceptible animals will follow. The organisation also said it will be making weekly follow-up reports as the case develops. ■
