The document was signed by Olga Trofimtseva, Ukraine's acting agriculture minister, and Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, UAE's Minister of Climate Change and Environment, during the Gulfood 2019 expo in Dubai.

Trofimtseva voiced her hope that signing of the MoU would help Ukraine and the UAE to substantially increase their bilateral trade in agricultural products, expand the number of goods traded between the sides and deepen cooperation in the livestock sector and food security.

"Ukraine intends to become a strategic partner of the UAE to ensure food security of this country," Trofimtseva said.

In 2018, the agricultural trade turnover between Ukraine and the UAE stood at about 204 million U.S. dollars, with Ukrainian exports accounting for 95.2 percent of the total trade.

Currently, Ukraine mainly exports sunflower oil, milk and milk products, honey, and eggs to the UAE.
