Surplus in Romanian food trade, exports up 7.6%

In comparison to the same period of 2014, Romania has a surplus in the trade of food for the first 9 months of 2015.

Exports increased by 7.6% against the same period of 2014 up to 4.2 billion euros, while imports increased 17.3% to a total 4.16 billion euros, according to the data supplied by the ministry of agriculture (MADR).

"The commercial surplus of food produce exchange of the first nine months of 2015 was 31.1 million euros, dropping against the level of 349.6 million euros recorded during the same period of 2014.

Romania exported food worth 4.2 billion euros, with 297.1 million euros more than during the corresponding period of 2014, and imports worth 4.16 billion euros increased more intensely, surpassed by 615.6 million euros the value of the first nine moths of 2014.

Imports increased in most categories: corn (+182.9 million euros, imports for reexport), bananas (+29.8 million euros), citrus fruits (+13.2 million euros), food produce (+10 million euros) and as the price of raw materials dropped, the imported quantity grew by 14,900 tons.

The European Union was the main partner in the food trade of Romania. Thus, in the first nine months of 2015, deliveries of food to this destination had a share of 63% and the acquisitions from the member states had a share of 80.8%.
