Russian Agriculture Minister Alexander Tkachov held talks with Iranian Agriculture Minister Mahmoud Hojjati as part of a visit to Teheran. The two sides are expected to discuss trade cooperation.
Trade talks An increase of exports of a broad spectrum of farm produce
One of the items on the agenda is an increase of exports of Iranian vegetables to Russia. Apart from Alexander Tkachov, other officials from the Agriculture Ministry and the federal agricultural watchdog agency Rosselkhoznadzor will take part in the talks. Russian representatives have said on a number of occasions this country is eyeing a broader trade in farm produce with Iran.
Rosselkhoznadzor director Sergei Dankvert said on December 23 supplies of Russian poultry to Iran would begin after January 20 and supplies of dairy products, after February 15. Iran exports a range of fruit and vegetables to Russia.
Last November, Rosselkhoznadzor entered 25 Iranian companies in the register of foodstuff suppliers. ■
