Romania: Law that bans export of logs to extra-community area for ten years promulgated

President Klaus Iohannis promulgated on Friday the law which bans, starting with 1st January 2021, for a period of 10 years the export of logs to the extra-community area.

‘The export of logs with or without bark, or round wood for a period of 10 years, to the extra-community area starting with 1st January 2021 (…) Non-compliance with the interdiction for export of the wooded mass is sanctioned with imprisonment from one year to three years or fine worth 100,000 lei’ says the law regarding the sustainable management of the forests of Romania initiated by several PSD deputies ( social-democrat party – opposition).

The normative document regulates the establishment of the National Registrar for the digitized record of the forestry property at the level of the central public authorities which are responsible for forestry, with a view to implementing the forestry regime and the sustainable management of the foresty fund.
