Food trade   The origin and quality

The Romanian Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is planning to enforce checks on all agro-food and wholesale markets in Bucharest and the municipalities in all counties. This measure will have a permanent character.

The action is intended to strengthen order and discipline in all agro-food markets in Romania and, in particular, to properly inform the population about the origin and quality of vegetables and fruits, as well as to guarantee that at least 40% of space is reserved for domestic agricultural producers.

Such verifications will be carried out by means of a permanent control theme approved by the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development.

It is worth noting that, as part of a recent inspection carried out in Obor Square in Bucharest, it was found that there are still irregularities in the marketing of agro-food products, especially vegetables and fruits.

For example, there were products on display that did not, for the most part, have a good indication of origin to see whether they were domestic or imported products, and there were also domestic and imported products sold together in bulk, as well as certificate violations.

26 penalties were imposed due to these irregularities, with fines and a written warning setting a deadline to correct all the deficiencies.
