Iowa farmers set production records for soybean and corn

In 2015, Iowa farmers set production records to regain the title of top soybean producing state and retain the title of the top corn producing state.

With a record statewide average yield of 56.5 bushels per acre, Iowa soybean farmers produced the record 554 million bushels, according to the USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service Crop Production 2015 Summary.

Previous records were set in 2005 when a 52.5 bu./acre statewide average yield produced a 525 million bu. crop. In 2014, 51 bu./acre statewide average yield produced 498.27 million bu. crop.

Illinois, the 2014 top soybean producing state, produced a 544.32 million bu. soybean crop with a statewide average yield of 56 bu./acre.

A statewide average yield of 50 bu./acre in Minnesota produced a 377.5 million bu. soybean crop. Nebraska farmers produced a 305.66 million bu. soybean crop with a statewide average yield of 58 bu./acre. A statewide average yield of 40.5 bu./acre produced a 181.44 million bu. soybean crop in Missouri.

U.S. total soybean production was a record 3.929 billion bu., with a record national average yield of 48 bu./acre.

The previous national record soybean production was set in 2014, when a national average yield of 47.5 bu./acre produced a 3.927 billion bu. crop.

Iowa retained the top corn producing title for the 22nd straight year. It’s been No. 1 37 of the last 38 years. Iowa farmers produced a record 2.51 billion bushels of corn with a record average statewide yield of 192 bu./acre.
