Increase of the yield per hectare in Romania

The area cultivated with cereal grains decreased by 1.5% in Romaina, while the production increased by 8.3% compared to the previous year.

This is mainly due to the increase of the yield per hectare: maize (+16.3%), oat (+12.3%), barley and two‐row barley (+7.5%), wheat (+3.8%).

The area cultivated with maze in 2016 represents 46.4% of the area cultivated with cereal grains and that cultivated with wheat represents 39.2%.

Dried pulses production increased by 30.3% due to the increase of the area cultivated (+31.1%) compared to the previous year.

Oilseed crops production increased by 19.7% due to the increase of both the area cultivated (+6.9%) and of the yield per hectare. Production increases were recorded for rape (+45.4%) and sunflower (+9.4%), while soya kept the same level as in the previous year.

Suger beet production decreased by 7.2% due to the decrease of the area cultivated (11.1%).

Potatoes production increased by 2.4% due to the increase of the yield per hectare (+2.9%) although the aria cultivated decreased (0.5%) compared to the previous year.

Vegetables production was smaller by 8.1% due to the decrease of the area cultivated (3.4%) and of the yield per hectare.
