Operation of Ibama in conjunction with the Federal Police (PF) carried out during the closure of the lobster resulted in the seizure of 525 kg of fish, a vessel and equipment on the Island of Itamaracá, on the north coast of Pernambuco.

The violators were fined R $ 33,600 and conducted to the PF Superintendence in Recife.

From November to May, fishing for lobsters of the species Panulirus argus and P. laevicauda is prohibited.

The measure is necessary to preserve the populations of the crustacean by ensuring the reestablishment of fish stocks.

During this period, fishermen with a valid permit to catch the lobster are insured.

The seized fish was donated to the Mesa Brasil food safety program of the Social Service of Commerce (SESC).
