China finds coronavirus on Ecuadorian frozen shrimp, import stopped

China announced the suspension of shrimp imports from three companies in Ecuador, after the coronavirus was found on the surface of frozen shrimp packages.

The General Customs Administration explained that the affected companies are Industrial Pesquera Santa Priscila S.A.; Empacreci S.A. and Empacadora Del Pacifico Sociedad Anónima Edpacif S.A.

The products of these companies dated after March 12 will be taken out of sale to the public and then destroyed.

Official figures indicate that last March alone, almost 30,000 tons of Ecuadorian seafood entered the country.

China exhaustively checks every foreign merchandise as part of its prevention and control plan in view of the persistence in the world of the Covid-19 pandemic, caused by coronavirus. In this context, it recently cancelled imports of meat from plants in Germany and the United States.
