Asia   Planted area has shown a downward trend
Harvested area is estimated at 35 million ha, unchanged from last month but down 5% from last year.

Planted area has shown a downward trend in recent years as farmers switched to alternative profitable crops such as soybeans, and rice, as well as returning land to pasture.

Yield is forecast at a record 6.14 tonnes per ha, unchanged from last month, and up 3% from last year.

Despite unseasonably warm and localised dry weather from April through June, satellite data indicates favourable soil moisture conditions and with no significant crop stress.
