Brazilian poultry exports increased 15.6 percent

Brazilian poultry exports increased 15.6% in March over the same month of last year with 403,400 tons, according the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA).

The volume includes fresh meat, salted, canned and processed. Revenues with external sales stood at $584.3 million and increased 0.9% over the same month of 2015. In reais, the increase was even higher, 19%, totaling BRL 2.1 billion.

In Q1, 1.04 million tons of poultry were shipped abroad, an increase of 12% over Q1 2015. In reais, the increase was 26.8% to BRL 5.8 billion.

“One of the highlights is China, both for poultry and pork, as a consequence of the increase in the number of plants opened last year. Other markets such as Japan, United Arab Emirates, Hong Kong and Russia also increased purchases”, said ABPA’s vice-president of poultry, Ricardo Santin.
