The secretary of the National Banana Board, Raymundo Villareal Purizaca, said they were worried because they were losing more than half a million dollars each day that they can't move the containers with the export product.

"The banana is a perishable fruit, if the strike continues we will have millionaire losses. In addition we must comply with the orders that we have with other countries, if we don't export we will lose credibility with the buyers," said Raymundo.

The representatives of the association went to the regional council to request the support of the councilors and the regional governor.

Banana growers said they considered the strike must be negotiated with the transport companies, otherwise they will have to take their products through the port of Bolivar, in Guayaquil.
