As a protest for what they consider an indiscriminate importation and sale at a very low price, a group of farmers from three Argentine provinces are giving away today about 30 tons of bananas at the Plaza de Mayo.

First, they gave away fruits and then vegetables, but today, producers from Salta, Jujuy and Formosa provinces will give away bananas, brought in hundreds of boxes to be distributed to people passing through that place.

Farmers are calling for government assistance to reverse the situation they have been living for several months in the domestic market, impacted by the supply of this product from other countries, they said.

The president of the Association of Producers of Fruits and Vegetables of Salta, Jose Luis Checa, stated that the action they will carry out today aims at drawing attention so President Mauricio Macri give us five minutes of his agenda.

The situation is a waste of time, said Checa after adding that "the political measures they carry out are lukewarm and they do not accompany us."
