Horace Mann CFO Dwayne Hallman to take medical leave
Mr. Hallman is Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Hallman joined Horace Mann in January 2003 as Senior Vice President, Finance.
From September 2000 to December 2002, Mr. Hallman served as the Chief Financial Officer of Acceptance Insurance Companies, where he was responsible for financial reporting, investor relations, the treasury and investment management functions and property-casualty operations.
From July 1995 to August 2000, Mr. Hallman served as Vice President, Finance and Treasurer at Highlands Insurance Group. He served as Vice President and Controller of Ranger Insurance Company from 1988 to 1995.
From 1984 to 1988, Mr. Hallman was associated with KPMG Peat Marwick, specializing in its insurance industry practice.
The Horace Mann Board of Directors has named Bret A. Conklin, currently Horace Mann's Senior Vice President, Controller and Chief Accounting Officer, as acting Chief Financial Officer.
Mr. Conklin is a seasoned corporate finance executive, with over 30 years of experience in the insurance and financial services industry. Mr. Conklin joined the company as Senior Vice President and Controller in 2002.
He previously served as Vice President of Kemper Insurance from 2000 through 2002, where he was responsible for all corporate financial reporting and accounting operations; and Vice President and Controller of Horace Mann from 1998 through 2000.
Mr. Conklin was Vice President and Controller of Pekin Insurance from 1992 through 1998. He has seven years of public accounting experience with KPMG Peat Marwick from 1985 to 1992, specializing in its insurance industry practice.
