HanesBrands COO Gerald Evans Jr. assumes role of CEO

Richard A. NollHanesBrands, a basic apparel marketer, announces its chairman and CEO Richard A. Noll narrowing his role to executive chairman and COO, Gerald W. Evans Jr. assuming the role of CEO, both effective October 1, 2016.
Mr. Noll and Mr. Evans each have held leadership positions at Hanes spanning more than 30 years.

Mr. Noll serves as a member of the Business Roundtable and served as lead director of The Fresh Market until April 2016.

Previously in his career, Mr. Noll led the turnarounds of several Sara Lee Corporation bakery and apparel businesses; consulted for Strategic Planning Associates; and began his career as a systems programmer.

Mr. Noll earned a bachelor of science degree in business administration from Pennsylvania State University in 1979; an MSIA (MBA) from Carnegie-Mellon University in 1985, graduating with distinction and receiving the Elliott Dunlap Smith Award; and an honorary doctor of laws degree from Wake Forest University in 2008.

Mr. Evans has more than 30 years of experience in the apparel industry with a proven global track record in marketing, sales and general management positions spanning the Hanes organization and its predecessor companies.

Prior to his promotion to chief operating officer, Mr. Evans was co-chief operating officer of Hanes from 2011 to 2013. He served as co-operating officer, president International, from 2010 to 2011. He joined Hanes in 1983 as a member of the L’eggs marketing organization.

Mr. Evans earned a B.S. degree in marketing and an M.B.A. at the University of South Carolina.
