Lenovo IdeaPad U110 in the wild

Lenovo IdeaPad U110IdeaPad U110 is an ultra portable computer that we've been waiting since this year's CES. With it Lenovo will take a good part or ultra portable market.

As I wrote before, and I fell I will repeat that many times this year, many exciting things happen on the market of ultra small notebooks. As a matter of fact, I wrote the previous sentence before, but I can't help myself. We are living in exciting time and I enjoy it.

Lenovo IdeaPad U110Chinese group Lenovo unleashed its new beast in the US. Well, its a small beast, more like Thumbelina or something... On the outside. The interior is another story. Lenovo IdeaPad U110 is an ultra portable computer that we've been waiting since this year's CES. IdeaPad U110 configuration will start at 1,899 dollars and while some wonders that price is too high, we think it's just right for the specifications. And it goes as follows.

The heart of Lenovo IdeaPad U110 is Intel's processor known as Core 2 Duo L7500. It is built in 65-nm technology, has 4 MB of L2 cache memory, clock frequency is 1.60 GHz, and front side bus runs on 800 MHz. All your data will be stored on 120 GB hard drive that rotates at 4,200 RPM. It is obvious that processor isn't the fastest gepard on Earth, but I think that it deserves a little bit faster hard drive. It seems that HD is the weakest link here.

Lenovo IdeaPad U110To show you the picture Lenovo U110 uses well-known solution from Intel GMA X3100. That is not as fast as lightning but it is OK for using it on the plane or on the back seat of your Maybach. It you don't have something else to do on the back seat... Preinstalled operating system is my favourite Windows Vista and two megabytes of memory is enough for comfortable work.

With it you may carry DVD writer which is dual-layer (that's good) and external (that's bad). For the occasional business meeting 1.3-megapixel web camera will be fine. All connection amenities are also here, from Ethernet 100 to very useful WiFi. Very nice.

Lenovo IdeaPad U110Take all that together and you'll have in your hand 1,2 kg (2.4-pounds) of very well built and balanced ultra portable laptop. Standard 4-cell battery will be good for two hours. That is the compromise between weight and working time, but I feel that it should last more. If you take 7-cell battery that will be enough for whole working day of eight hours but that also means that U110 will be heavier. I feel that Lenovo will take a good part or ultra portable market with U110.
