Desktop Asus for the road
We wrote about Asus Eee, a great mini computer, but engineers managed to attract our attention again. It seems that folks in Asus decided to conquer that market of small PCs.
The new ASUS Essentio CS5110 is a Mini PC with designed with graphics performance in mind. Since our good friends that make small computer obviously want to make smaller than small, Essentio is the smallest desktop personal computer with fully embedded discrete graphic card. With its performance and size, it is an ideal machine for mobile life.
ASUS Essentio CS5110 is nice video player because of its 1080p and HDMI display output. That means that it will provide a clear and crisp picture on your TV set or computer monitor. Where's the picture, there's sound, and Essentio CS5110 has plenty of it. That small animal has 7.1 sound output and supports S/PIDF-output. Thus, it can be connected to your 7.1 speakers or audio devices, and it can deliver an experience of vivid surround-sound for movies. The new thermal module developed at Asus has for a consequence very low noise. Asus state it is 23.8 dB what is, translated to English, very quiet. Ideal for watching a movie in the middle of the night or in the middle of 12-hour flight, somewhere over the Atlantic.
And when you are on the rod (or should I say in the sky?), connectivity is of outmost importance. ASUS Essentio CS5110 offers 802.11n which the fast wireless standard. With it you can transfer your data with up to 300Mbps. For connection with other mobile devices like PDA or mobile phones you can use Bluetooth.
Magnificent name Splendid Video Intelligence Technology (I'd like to see who first came to it), there is interesting technology that provides vivid color, brightness, contrast and sharpness correction. Using the hotkey you can chose from different skin-tones. Honestly, I don't see why I should change the colour of somebody's skin. Essentio CS5110 has very nice design which looks a bit Italian and retro. Very elegant.
The heart of Essentio may be Intel Core2 Duo or Pentium Dual-Core or Pentium 4 or Celeron D. There may be 4GB or DDR2 memory, slot supports DVD or Blu-ray, and hard disk is SATA II with capacity from 250GB to 1TB. With 3.4 kg it is in range of business laptop, so if you need a small but desktop device, take Essentio in consideration. ■
