Four-colors flag and smiley people

mauritius islandAbout 900 kilometers east of Madagascar, in the southwest Indian Ocean, lies island Mauritius. The first record of the country with an unusual four colors flag comes from Arab and Malay sailors in early tenth century. The Portuguese sailors were the first who visited Mauritius, while Dutch are the first who abandoned it because of tough climatic conditions. After French domination, British gain military control of the island, and in 1965 the United Kingdom split the Chagos Archipelago from Mauritius to create the British Indian Ocean Territory. In 1968 Mauritius attained independence and the country become a republic within the Commonwealth in 1992. That small island is also called Ithaka or Ithaki, and it lies off the east coast of Kefalonia. It is inhabited with around 3500 people, with very few shops and no attraction that would attract 20-something to drink until… You know.
