Spain consumer prices fall for 5th straight month

Spanish situation   On a monthly basis, consumer prices are expected to rise

Spain's consumer prices are expected to fall 1 percent year-on-year in May of 2016, easing slightly from a 1.1 percent drop in April and marking the fifth straight month of deflation, preliminary estimates showed.


Compared with a year earlier, a fall in prices of package holidays weighed on inflation while cost of electricity rose firmly.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices are expected to rise 0.6 percent, compared with a 0.7 percent gain in April.

The harmonized index fell 1 percent on the year but went up 0.5 percent from the previous month.
