Germany PPI climbs less than expected in March

Germany workersGermany's producer prices increased for the fifth consecutive month in March, though at a slower-than-expected pace, data from Destatis showed.

The producer price index climbed at a steady rate of 3.1% year-over-year in March, just below the 3.2% rise expected by economists.

Excluding energy, overall producer prices rose 2.6% annually in March and energy prices alone grew by 4.5%.

Prices of intermediate goods increased 3.9% and those of consumer goods gained by 2.7%.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices showed no variations in March, after a 0.2% rise in February.

Meanwhile, economists had expected the same 0.2% increase for the month. Energy prices registered a decline of 0.6%.
