French industrial production falls unexpectedly in October
Total industrial output in the euro area's second largest economy dropped 0.2% month-on-month in October, according to INSEE.
Production in non-core sectors such as food and beverages fell 2.3% month-on-month and that of chemicals and basic materials also weakened, by 3.0% and 3.6%, respectively.
Output of machinery and equipments goods rose 2.2% on the month and that of construction by another 2.1%.
Consumer durables output was especially weak, rebounding by just 0.9% over the month after crashing by 16.8% in the previous month. ■
