Warm designers rugs for cold days
The Rug Company has a collection of designers rugs and we'd like to them all home. A gorgeous designer rug can make any room come alive with color, texture and warmth. The Rug Company's rugs are designed by famous names as Diane Von Furstenberg, Vivienne Westwood, and Marni. Take for an example Swirl by Paul Smith. A great combination of colors that runs through the designer's work. This design is very interesting because you can put it in an old or new space and it will fit both of the perfectly.
Freya by William Yeoward is a very warm and jolly piece. Stunning leaf design flecked with amber, burgundy and green. The addition of the silk highlights the detail to great effect. Freya features a raised motif, finely hand knotted in wool and silk. Mr. Yeoward's wonderfully eclectic style is a rich tapestry of looks from the 18th century onwards and his philosophy is simple: for a design to succeed, it must be functional and beautiful. That's easy to say and extremely hard to accomplish but with this work he proved he is a master.
Leopard is... well, leopard can be very dagerous motiff in the hands of unexperienced designer but Diane Von Furstenberg why she chose it. Her Leopard is a signature statement print that has stood the test of time. Bold, yet understated, it evokes richness and movement that will add depth and interest to any space. This rug is entirely handmade, from the spinning of the wool to the weaving on the loom. It is unique, and has been crafted by weavers in the Kathmandu area, whose skills have been passed down through many generations.
If you like marble, you will like this piece. Tracery by Kelly Wearstler is drawing inspiration from the natural veining of stone and marble. The background is Tibetan wool in a warm grey colour, with the motif in soft olive green silk. Ms. Wearstler has received numerous accolades, including being named one of the elite "Design 100" by Time Style & Design, and it's obvious why. You should be careful with this piece, there should be some non-geometric pieces around it, but it you take some time the result can be very very good.
And now something very bold, suitable for larger spaces and certainly something that will add a royal feeling to your home. Sellarsbrook Blue by Suzanne Sharp features a striking geometric pattern of rings overlapping a grid. The color, pattern ad motiff size remind the design from old French castles and the craftsmanship is excellent. This rug is made using a special weaving technique. The background is knotted by looping directly around the warp and weft, giving a flat but highly tactile finish. ■
