The best champagne for the best boat

Riva Veuve ClicquotWe see collaborations of different companies every day. While some of them were more or less unexpected, the recent joint effort of Riva and Veuve Clicquot is truly justified.

Back in 1842 a boy named Pietro Riva came to the coast of an Italian lake to bring life to boats destroyed in a storm. Boats the no one could repair young Pietro brought to life and idea of making superior boats was born. Those who followed him turned his dream into reality and Riva yachts became yachts for kings, sultans, actors, jet setters, businessmen and idols of other kinds. A bit longer story about Riva you can read in one of our previous articles here.

Riva Veuve ClicquotAnother story, few kilometres to the northwest and few years in the past, lady Nicole-Barbe Ponsardin married François Clicquot on 10 June 1798. After her husband died Madame Clicquot became veuve, widow, and stopped to dissipate resource of her company on other businesses; she decided to invest all her power in Champagne production. As we know, women are very determined part of Homo sapiens, so it is no surprise that her champagne found its way to castles of the kings. When Pietro Riva died, he was leaving behind a well-known and successful company, and the same stands true for Madame Clicquot.

These day, two icons that don't know what word "compromise" means when it comes to quality of their products, presented jointly created pieces of luxury: the Cruise Collection and the Cruiser Bag. We honestly don't know for how long they worked together but knowing that Veuve Clicquot bottles and Riva mahogany sleep for years before going public, it is safe to assume that the work was hard and long. But, the result is outstanding.

Riva Veuve ClicquotThe joint efforts of Riva and Veuve Clicquot resulted in two different accessories for Riva boats, one is a made to order piece while the other is a limited edition one. La Grande Dame is the queen among the champagnes, and the Cruise Collection has four bottles of that divine nectar. Cruise Collection is a "made to measure piece and costs 80,000 dollars. For that you get four bottles of La Grande Dame 98, two magnums of La Grande Dame 88, six champagne flutes Riedel and six water tumblers, plates, table mats and cutlery. Cruiser Bag is a Limited Edition piece which includes a bottle of La Grande Dame 98 and two champagne flutes. For one of only 300 pieces that will be made you'll give 425 dollars. You understand that the prices are stated here just for the information, we really don't care about the price when we are talking about such fine things.

Riva Veuve ClicquotDesigners used mahogany, leather, and chrome, and you can see on the pictures that very skilled craftsmen worked on those fine pieces. The Cruise Collection is an oval in varnished fiberglass, recalling the hull of Riva's cabin cruiser. Dimension are great as well: 1,5 m x 1 m, and 150 kilograms. Design made The Cruise Collection looks light and wheels with brakes allow it to be transported easily. Details are made of mahogany covered with a filament of sycamore and accents are in chrome and calfskin. Absolute beauty and absolutely appropriate for La Grande Dame.
