Lie down on that piece of art
A park bench is... well, a park bench, right? A bit of wood, nothing special, just a place to sit down in the garden. Well, that's true unless you give Naoto Fukasawa to do something, then it becomes a piece of art. This outdoor bench named Titikaka was as a departure from the traditional bench style and clearly shows the influence of the Far East. Titikaka features teak lathes over a durable aluminum frame and that creates a wave of wood, a sculpture on which you can sit down. Place it under the tree in your backyard and enjoy in this design masterpiece.
Designer Patricia Urquiola made a step further while creating pool chairs: She managed to mix functionality, comfort, and good look. Husk Outdoor features a hard shell and a set of soft cushions. The body is white, and the seat support is available in white, black, orange, acid green and sky blue. Cushions come in two versions, with larger sizes on the seat or on the backrest, and are covered by fabric in white, beige, orange, acid green, sky blue. The water-passing padding enables water to freely go through the cushions.
For fans of ultra-modern design, even when you are by the pool or on the beach, a piece by Qui est Paul? is something you definitively should see. This sculptural piece feature unusual shapes and a contemporary aesthetic that will set the tone for your modern outdoors. The lounge chair is made with comfort in mind but make no mistake, first and foremost it's a focal point of your outdoor piece of heaven. Where to put it? Wherever you decide, just be sure to have some colorful cocktails aside, they will increase the coolness factor.
Leaf by Frank Ligthart is one of those rare pieces that makes us jealous because we wish we made it. The graceful shape of elegantly curved leaves is the spin-off for this unique beach chair and matching side table. Two sizes, single or double bed, encourage sensual high spirits and enable us to be one with nature. This is a great example how something from nature can be transferred into a useful product with just a right combination of natural and artificial. It would fit best on a tropical island but your pool would be OK, too.
And for the end, something that looks so crazy and so cool: Nestrest. Daniel Pouzet and Fred Frety made an over-sized bird's nest that you can put wherever you want: in your backyard, among big bird, near the river... Nestrest is a secluded, suspended sanctuary, a perfect place for relaxation, meditation and open-air conversations. Nestrest is made of an especially strong fiber which means it is sturdy and can protect you, allowing you to look out while preventing outsiders from seeing inside! A true nest. ■
