Jewellery is art and art is jewellery
Cynthia Gale created a niche for herself in the art world as a museum piece jewellery designer in the mid-1990's. Her husband and business partner, Glenn, joined Cynthia in 1995 to operate GeoArt by Cynthia Gale.
Many of her collection concepts have shaped themselves through visits to Soho and Chelsea galleries, museums and the theatre. Cynthia's urban existence coupled with her exploration of a simpler lifestyle through her frequent production trips to Indonesia. This unique blend has clearly defined her design sense and given birth to not just another jewellery line, but rather a jewellery lifestyle. Frequent production trips to Bali and Java brought Cynthia and Glenn close to this distinctive culture and its art.
In 1999, Cynthia and Glenn opened their midtown showroom to house the GeoArt collection. In 2002, the company launched its Cynthia Gale Signature Collection utilizing the fine art of repoussé. Ms. Gale discovered a unique repoussé workshop in Central Java and fell in love with the exquisite beauty of this time honoured metalwork technique. She was convinced that repoussé was the perfect technique to utilize for her signature collection to offer to her rapidly expanding client base a unique insight into the world of fine craft.
Through her signature collection, Ms. Gale currently holds licensing partnerships with more than fifteen the nation's leading museums and cultural institutions including: J. Paul Getty Villa, Museum of Fine Arts Boston, The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and The Jewish Museum. She also creates unique product for The Metropolitan Museum of Art and The Smithsonian utilizing this distinctive technique.
Working with permanent collection pieces, incoming art exhibits and museum architecture, Ms. Gale creates contemporary collections of modern elegance, which she markets to high-end catalogues, museum shops, fine jewellery stores and galleries. Other clients include National Geographic and Barnes and Noble.
For Cynthia Gale, jewellery is art and art is jewellery. Every piece in each of her collections is created to convey to the wearer a sense of the cultural, historical or spiritual inspiration that went into creating it. ■
