A factor that has contributed to this growth is inflation, which now stands at +2.3%, AHDB said.
Food prices have been rising since January 2017, following a period of grocery price deflation which ran for 30 consecutive periods from September 2014 to December 2016.
Most dairy products have also seen value growth in the past year, with the exception of cheese.
For the butter market, total value has grown by 3.1%, driven by an average price increase of 2.3%, combined with volume growth of 0.8%.
Total cheese, although not growing in value (-0.1%), has seen a healthy increase in volume sold of 1.9%.
