Arabs step up poultry imports from Brazil
Last month, the Gulf country bought 67,000 tons of chicken meat from Brazil, a 15% increase over a year ago. In the four months through April, Saudi Arabia imported 246,900 tons, up 9% from Jan-Apr 2015.
Other Arab countries’ imports from Brazil also soared. Yemen purchased 6,500 tons, up 736% from April 2015. Brazil exported 12,000 tons of poultry to Egypt, up 52%, and 9,000 tons to Oman, up 83%.
China was the second leading Brazilian poultry importer in April at 51,100 tons, up 108%. Russia, the European Union and Mexico also stepped up their Brazilian chicken meat purchases.
Overall, 421,000 tons of poultry were shipped from Brazil in the month, up 25% from April 2015. ■
